A robe cut from muslin: lightweight cotton woven in an open, gauze-like structure, with two of those layers held together as double gauze. The weave is what gives it the crinkle and the weightlessness. It's the same cloth used for baby swaddles, scaled up.

It starts at the water but doesn't stop there. The gauze layers trap pockets of air that hold body heat without weight, so it works over long sleeves well into all seasons.

No. Wash cold on a gentle cycle and turn it inside out first, and the paint stays put. What it won't survive is bleach or a hot tumble dry. The same things that ruin the cotton anyway.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang or tumble dry low. Skip the fabric softener, it coats the fibres and blocks the softening cotton does on its own. No ironing after, the crinkle is the point.
